A
light in a dark place
We have
also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as
unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the
day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 2 Peter 1:19
Prophecy is a light that when studied shines a light on the
future. The future is dark in that nobody knows what is going to happen neither
can anyone arbritarily predict the future and get it
right 100% of the time unless omnipotence reveals it through his servants the
prophets “Surely the Lord GOD will do
nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his
servants the prophets.” Amos 3:7
. God in his mercy and love wanted to make sure His children
had everything they needed to be ready and prepared to meet him in peace. In 2
peter 1 Peter is talking about being with Christ on the mount of
transfiguration and experiencing all that he saw and heard about Jesus being
the son of God and the messiah, and what he is trying to relate to those alive
in his time as well as us is that we are not following any cunningly devised
fables and he is sure because he was an eyewitness to this event. Further what
he is saying is that prophecy is more sure than the
eyewitness account he saw. With that we know that if we become students of
prophecy we will not be deceived by the arch deciever . “We should be earnest students
of prophecy; we should not rest until we become intelligent in regard to the
subject of the sanctuary, which is brought out in the visions of Daniel and
John. This subject sheds great light on our present position and work, and
gives us unmistakable proof that God has led us in our past experience. It
explains our disappointment in 1844, showing us that the sanctuary to be
cleansed was not the earth, as we had supposed, but that Christ then entered
into the most holy apartment of the heavenly sanctuary,
and is there performing the closing work of His priestly office, in fulfillment
of the words of the angel to the prophet Daniel.” {Mar 247}
